Khen: When "Grace" touches the heart
There are words that aren't spoken, they're felt. "Khen" is one of them.
In Hebrew, this word translates as grace , but not the kind that is repeated meaninglessly or mentioned out of politeness. Khen is much more than a pretty word. It is the pure expression of undeserved favor, of love that arrives when we least expect it, of relief that comes just when we were about to give up.
Khen is the moment when God looks at you and says, “It’s not because of what you did, it’s because of who I am.”
We live in a world that measures everything by merit. That tells you that you're worth what you produce, that you deserve according to what you give. But grace doesn't obey those rules. Grace surprises, rescues, lifts up. Grace doesn't demand, it gives . And when you receive it, something is transformed.
To receive grace is to understand that you are not alone, that despite your mistakes, stumbles, and wounds, there is an opportunity to begin again. It is knowing that, even in your most broken moments, there is someone who continues to believe in you.
Khen doesn't change the circumstances. He changes your heart in the face of them. And that… changes everything.
You may not see it today, but grace has sustained you more times than you can remember. In that call that came just in time. In the hug you didn't ask for but that saved you. In the silence in which God spoke to you without words.
May we never cease to be amazed by grace. May we never mistake it for luck or take it for granted. May we understand that living with Khen is walking with the knowledge that, even on the grayest days, the sky continues to favor us.
“Surely goodness and mercy will follow me all the days of my life…”
— Psalm 23:6
