Sixty volunteers graduated who will bring health services to Guatemalan communities.
By 2026, it is expected that 4,000 people will receive primary health services from the graduates.
Pro Mujer celebrated the graduation of its first cohort of Community Health Promoters in Guatemala City, as part of the project “Credit, Preventive Health, and Digital Skills to Empower Women Micro-Entrepreneurs.” This group of volunteers joins the graduates from Chimaltenango who graduated last Thursday, December 5th.
A total of 60 women entrepreneurs completed the 200-hour training program , where they acquired essential knowledge in first aid, nutrition, weight management, screenings, blood sampling, and blood pressure measurement. The program also provides them with equipment to bring basic health services to communities that have historically had limited access to these resources.
The event marked the start of Pro Mujer's community health field activities in the departments of Guatemala, Sacatepéquez, and Chimaltenango , with a focus on women entrepreneurs living in vulnerable situations. This program seeks to broaden its impact through a holistic approach that combines preventive health training with financial services.
" This graduation marks a milestone in our commitment to empowering women and strengthening community health in Guatemala. The Community Health Promoters are an example of the transformative impact that can be achieved when we provide women with the tools and knowledge to lead change in their communities," highlighted Denia Eunice Del Valle Barrera, Country Representative of Pro Mujer.
These types of free training programs are invaluable for women, empowering them through various skills. "I'm very happy to be part of this group of volunteer health promoters. We're training to learn how to give injections, insert IVs, and perform screenings— skills that will benefit not only our families but also our neighbors who need support ," shared Yasmín Zamora, one of the program participants.
It's worth mentioning that a second call for applications has already been announced, scheduled for February 2025 , which will be conducted in collaboration with INTECAP. This new cohort will include a specialized technical module in healthcare and will continue to be free of charge, benefiting women entrepreneurs who have already participated in other INTECAP initiatives.
The projected impact is significant. By 2025, the promoters are expected to reach more than 1,500 women, with a total goal of 4,000 by 2026. This initial achievement represents a milestone in Pro Mujer's commitment to women's empowerment, the promotion of preventative health, and the improvement of quality of life in Guatemalan communities. The ceremony reflected the transformative power of women's leadership in building a more equitable and healthy future.
