Citi celebrates Global Community Day in Guatemala
In line with Citi's Global Innovation Challenge, this year's activities focused on the importance of food security and supporting early childhood.
Guatemala City , June, 2025; As part of Citi's Global Community Day 2025, Citi employees in Guatemala joined CARE Guatemala and United Way Guatemala to carry out two initiatives with a common purpose: to improve the lives of women and children in vulnerable communities through sustainability, recycling, and volunteer action.
In partnership with CARE Guatemala and its She Feeds the World program, volunteers worked on creating poultry feeders made from recycled materials such as plastic bottles, reclaimed wood, and nylon twine. These structures will help strengthen food security for Guatemalan families by supporting poultry farming in rural communities where more than 300 gardens and 300 chicken coops have already been established, benefiting 600 women producers trained in sustainable agricultural and nutritional practices.
Simultaneously, another group of volunteers joined United Way Guatemala to build a playroom and sensory panels at Official Preschool No. 43, located in Zone 5 of Guatemala City. Also using recycled materials, this activity aims to create a more stimulating and inclusive learning environment for preschool children, reinforcing Citi's commitment to education and early childhood development.
“ At Citi, we believe in the power of volunteering as a tool for social transformation. This year, we are proud to see how our employees in Guatemala joined forces with key organizations to drive creative and sustainable solutions that empower women and enrich children’s education,” said Julio Álvarez, CCO of Citi Guatemala.
For two decades, Global Community Day has been an integral part of Citi's culture of service. It is an opportunity to connect with our communities and reaffirm our commitment to the well-being of those who need it most.
Global Community Day has become a flagship event for the company, which, since its founding, has demonstrated a strong commitment to sustainable development and the well-being of communities.
For Citi, volunteering is a key way to fulfill its shared global mission of enabling economic growth and progress at the local level. This annual event exemplifies the power of collaboration and community spirit. The events, connections, and volunteer stories that make up Global Community Day each year are a celebration of the positive impact we have when we use our time, skills, and talents.
