DHL Global Forwarding opens modern logistics center in Guatemala with a USD 10 million investment
Guatemala, November 2025. — DHL Global Forwarding, the DHL Group's air, sea and land transport specialist, announced the opening of its new distribution center in Villa Nueva, with an investment of USD 10 million, reaffirming its commitment to modernizing the logistics chain in Central America and specializing in the life sciences and healthcare sector.
Strategically located in the Vasto Logistics Industrial Complex, in the municipality of Villa Nueva, department of Guatemala, the new logistics center has a total area of 8,500 m² and a capacity for 11,000 pallet positions, in addition to 400 m² of offices designed under high standards of efficiency and quality.
The facility includes 14 loading and unloading ramps, double-deep selective pallet racking, a thermally insulated roof, and LED lighting with motion sensors to optimize energy consumption. Its design complies with NFPA fire prevention standards and includes an automated access control system, CCTV, and an electric fence.
“With this new facility, DHL Global Forwarding reinforces its position as a strategic partner for Guatemala’s foreign trade, especially in the life sciences sector, offering more agile, sustainable, and secure logistics solutions. This center is designed to respond to the growth of our clients’ operations and contribute to the country’s economic development,” stated José Monge, Country Manager of DHL Global Forwarding Guatemala.
The project was conceived with a sustainable construction approach, integrating a redundant electrical supply and a plan for installing solar panels on all the rooftops of the industrial park, with the goal of producing clean energy. In addition, the complex has its own water wells, rainwater harvesting systems for maintaining green areas, and a wastewater treatment plant.
The new logistics center also stands out for its strategic accessibility: it connects directly to the CA9 (Atlantic and Honduras) and CA1 (Mexico and San Salvador) highways, as well as secondary roads leading to Bárcenas, Villa Canales, Boca del Monte, Atanasio Tzul, and San Miguel Petapa. Its location also facilitates access to Puerto Quetzal and Santo Tomás de Castilla, two of the country's main import and export hubs, as well as to the borders with El Salvador, Mexico, and Honduras.
The center's internal infrastructure includes a maximum height of 14 meters, ramps and electric doors, a fire suppression system with hydrants and smoke detectors, and an air injection and extraction system to control temperature and air quality. It also features lithium-ion electric forklifts capable of reaching 80% charge in just two hours, improving operational efficiency and reducing emissions.
“Our new logistics center in Villa Nueva represents a commitment to innovation, sustainability, and Guatemala’s competitiveness as a regional logistics hub. Our goal is to continue investing in world-class infrastructure to support the growth of the country’s trade and exports,” Monge concluded.
