1.     Tradition and culture: Quetzaltenango, Guatemala

One of the favorite destinations for those seeking to combine nature, history, and gastronomy is Xela. Throughout the month, the city comes alive with color, featuring school parades, cultural performances, and fairs, such as the famous Xelafer, where visitors can enjoy amusement rides and delicious food. The expert recommends trying dishes like traditional tostadas with guacamole and salsa, corn atole (a hot chocolate drink), and traditional shecas (semi-sweet breads originating from western Guatemala, characterized by their distinctive anise flavor and aroma, and containing ingredients like panela (or honey), cinnamon, and yeast).

 

2.     Art, celebration and flavor: San Salvador, El Salvador

The Salvadoran capital offers a blend of modernity and tradition, ideal for a short trip during the Independence Day celebrations. In September, the city dons blue and white to celebrate with parades, food fairs, and concerts. Travelers can explore the Historic Center, the National Palace, and enjoy the nightlife in the Zona Rosa, as well as sample the famous pupusas filled with cheese or chicharrón and the refreshing atol shuco.

 

3.   History and nature: Tegucigalpa, Honduras
