Fundación Miguel Torrebiarte Sohanín apuesta por la educación en el país

The Miguel Torrebiarte Sohanín Foundation is committed to education in the country

Guatemala, June 2025.- Since its creation, the Miguel Torrebiarte Sohanin Foundation -FMTS- has been committed to the education of children and young people in the country, mainly in the departments where it carries out social development programs every month.

An example of this is the Lectoaventuras project, which promotes reading habits among students in grades one through six at the EORM Aldea Chicoj Raxquix and EORM Caserío Venecia schools, which have now joined the project. Information was also provided to teachers in the San Cristóbal Verapaz educational network so that, through digital reading comprehension materials, they can better understand the objective of this educational program.

To support the ProFuturo project, we continuously provide training to teachers so that the implemented technological resources can be used in the best possible way by students. For this reason, we recently provided tools in the municipality of Chisec, Alta Verapaz, for creating classes and original content on the platform ,” highlighted Marleny Aquino, Executive Director of FMTS.

Another action carried out in the area of education was through the Dejando Huella program, through which the foundation reaffirms its commitment to the well-being and development of Guatemalan communities, donating 50 pairs of shoes to the Fratres Sumus Foundation, which provides scholarships to teenagers and women from low-income areas of rural and peripheral Guatemala City, Sacatepéquez, Chimaltenango, Totonicapán and Quiché.

Educational visits to the Cobán Shoe Factory have also resumed, where students from the Chiyey Rural School (EORM Caserío Chiyey) learned about the shoe manufacturing process, starting with the selection of raw materials, design, and the work carried out by each department. It's an adventure where employees share their experience and what they've learned working in the factory.

"In support of various educational institutions, we have donated fabric, which is intended for the creation of graduation gowns, curtains, smocks, and stages. With this action, we reaffirm our commitment to the educational community and its various activities," concluded Marleny Aquino, Executive Director of FMTS.
