Herbalife reinforces its environmental commitment in Guatemala with concrete results in recycling

·       Herbalife consolidates its sustainability strategy in Guatemala with an approach that transforms waste into social and environmental value through structured recycling and local partnerships.

Guatemala, June 2025. Herbalife is driven by its commitment to the common good. Over the years, the company has taken an active role in sustainability, positively impacting the communities where it operates. True to its purpose of building a healthier world, Herbalife has incorporated practices into its business model that reduce its environmental impact, recognizing that companies play a fundamental role in preserving the planet.

As part of these efforts, Herbalife has implemented a comprehensive approach to prevent plastic packaging, cardboard, and other recyclable materials from ending up in landfills or, ultimately, polluting our oceans, which produce nearly 70% of the oxygen we breathe. This vision guides its environmental management, where prevention and the circular economy are priorities.

“At Herbalife, we firmly believe that our daily decisions can make a difference. That’s why we’ve chosen to invest in concrete measures that allow us to manage our waste responsibly and with social impact,” said Fernando Sandoval, Sales and Marketing Director for Central America and Ecuador.

In an effort to contribute to a pollution-free planet, Herbalife is implementing recycling programs at its office and sales center in Guatemala City. Through these initiatives, the company collects and recycles HDPE plastic containers, cardboard, and pallets, not only to protect the environment but also to support local NGOs and strategic partners. The recycled materials are transformed into resources: the funds generated are either donated directly or given to the organizations so they can manage the recycling and generate income.

"Our efforts don't end with recycling. We go further, strengthening partnerships that allow us to transform waste into opportunities for vulnerable communities and local entrepreneurs," Sandoval added.

Since the start of its collection program in 2018, Herbalife has managed to collect a total of 22.90 metric tons of hard plastic, 10.00 metric tons of cardboard and 30.60 metric tons of wood in Guatemala, preventing these materials from contaminating soils and bodies of water.

“Packaging is essential in the food industry: it ensures the preservation and safety of products, but when it is not managed correctly after use, it can become a significant environmental threat,” warned Fernando Sandoval.

Once collected, the material is carefully sorted and prepared for shipment to companies specializing in its reuse and sale. This process not only reduces the demand for virgin raw materials but also fosters a sustainable, efficient, and low-impact economy for the country.

Thanks to this practice carried out together with its strategic partner and collection center, "Herbalife has contributed to preventing the felling of 757 trees, the use of up to 295 barrels of oil, and has supported Guatemalan entrepreneurs for more than a decade who today see recycling as a source of dignified and environmentally responsible income.

With these actions, Herbalife reaffirms its commitment to constantly working to promote good habits of care, recycling and responsible consumption, with the purpose of minimizing the carbon footprint and protecting the planet for future generations.
