“Ostendere Animae”, the novel that seeks to challenge humanity.
It combines mysticism and politics, offering the reader a mirror to question life, society, and the human essence, inviting reflection on power, democracy, emotions, and the search for balance.
With its agile, direct, and symbolically rich language, “Ostendere Animae”defies the boundaries of genre. A novel that blends a spiritual narrative with a political perspective, it creates a work that inhabits different dimensions, constructing a mirror in which the reader can reflect and see their own reflection.
What am I doing here, in this place, at this moment? With this simple yet existential question begins “Ostendere Animae ,” the first novel by Juan José Farías Figueroa. Its titlecomes from Latin, literally meaning “to show the soul,” and tells a story based on a prophecy about a girl who cannot bear human cruelty. She cries for years, and for every tear she sheds, a baby will no longer be born. She cries so much that one day no more children are born in the world. Thus, the end of humanity is foretold. The only way to reverse it? To dare to show one's soul.
From this profoundly symbolic premise, the author constructs a novel that fuses the mystical with the human, the spiritual with the political, and invites reflection on themes such as lies, power, cruelty, religion, democracy, and emotions with an intimate and provocative prose that moves every reader. “We live in a world of imbalance, which is why the novel invites us to move beyond the eternal struggle between good and evil and proposes that we begin to seek balance as individuals and as a society,” the author comments.
One of the most original elements of “Ostendere Animae, Showing the Soul”is the character development process: Each character was designed based on a birth chart specially created by astrologer María Isabel (Panta) Casanovas, a close friend of the author and a fundamental part of the creative process. Casanovas contributed her astrological expertise, and her spiritual influence was transformed into a character who guides the protagonists through their transformations within the story. “A birth chart highlights a person’s virtues and limitations, so I decided that if my characters were going to be human, neither good nor bad, this tool would allow me to build them with depth and coherence,” explains Farías Figueroa.
Juan José Farías Figueroa was born in Buenos Aires. He is a systems analyst by profession and a writer by vocation. He arrived at this novel after a lifetime of observation, personal exploration, and social reflection. He doesn't consider himself a writer but rather a person with a message to share, inviting the reader to interpret it according to their own understanding. “Ostendere Animae” is the result of his aspiration to touch the soul and provoke reflection.
