Puente de Amistad sponsor of the X Latin American Forum on Community Banking

From March 19 to 21, the historic city of Antigua Guatemala hosted the 10th Latin American Community Banking Forum , an event that brought together more than 200 experts, academics, and leaders in the sector. During three days of exchange and learning, crucial topics such as social impact, technology, and savings were discussed —pillars that strengthen the Community Banking methodology and transform lives throughout the region.

Under the inspiring motto “Inclusion and empowerment: the responsible and sustainable impact of microfinance” , 25 collaborators from Puente de Amistad actively participated in the forum, reinforcing their knowledge, sharing experiences and reaffirming the organization's leadership in Guatemala.

One of the most significant moments was the meeting with John Hatch, creator of the Community Banking methodology in Latin America, who shared his inspiring story and acknowledged the impact it has had in the region. His testimony reaffirmed the importance of continuing to strengthen inclusive financing models for women entrepreneurs.

Puente de Amistad's presence at the forum was key. Caitlin Scott, Strategy Director, participated as a panelist, addressing essential topics such as resilience, women's empowerment, and closing the gender gap. Meanwhile, Roberto Silvestre, Director of Finance, Risk, and Credit , moderated a panel on the challenges and opportunities for ensuring the sustainability of community banking in the future.

Puente de Amistad's commitment and leadership were recognized with an award presented to Francisco Meletz, Director of Operations , in honor of the organization's impact and history in the region. This recognition reaffirms their tireless work in transforming the lives of thousands of women entrepreneurs in Guatemala.

Nohelia Guarchaj, Senior Marketing Coordinator, led a powerful panel with three clients who shared how the Community Banking methodology has transformed their lives, their families, and their communities. Their moving stories of empowerment and resilience touched the audience, and the panel received a well-deserved standing ovation, reminding us of the true impact behind our mission.

“Puente de Amistad’s participation in the forum was not only a learning experience, but also an opportunity to reaffirm our commitment to continue promoting financial inclusion and empowering women entrepreneurs through the Community Banking methodology, so they have the opportunity and tools to build a better future for themselves and their families. It also strengthens our connections, opens new alliances, and keeps us up-to-date on key topics such as artificial intelligence, sustainability, savings, and financial inclusion.” – Nohelia Guarchaj, Puente de Amistad.
