About Friendship Bridge
Puente de Amistad is a non-profit organization that empowers Guatemalan women living in poverty through microfinance, education, and healthcare, enabling them to create a better future for themselves, their children, and their communities. Puente de Amistad works primarily with indigenous populations in rural areas, where the poverty rate in Guatemala is highest. While illiteracy and poverty rates are alarming in these regions, the women we work with are determined to create change.
Our Microcredit Plus program combines small loans (the average loan size for new clients is $325). Our experience has shown us that more than just credit is needed to eliminate poverty; that's why it's simply the means to reach each of them and provide comprehensive support through the knowledge gained in monthly non-formal education sessions, specialized training, and medical and technical assistance. Our beneficiaries start, expand, or diversify their businesses and improve their quality of life .
