I started from scratch in a foreign land
I am Costa Rican and in 2015 my life took a complete turn. In a matter of 4 months I made the decision to move to Guatemala, leaving my job, my belongings and my family to get married and come to a foreign country to start from scratch. I found myself in a challenging situation: my degrees were not validated and, although I wanted to work, I would not be hired.
For years I had studied and strived to become a marketing professional, but at that time, I couldn't apply my knowledge.
One day, I decided to trust fully in God and in the talent He had given me. That night, I spontaneously opened my social media accounts, offered my services, and went to sleep.
Although I thought no one knew me, the King of Kings had me in his sights and had something prepared for me.
Less than a month after taking my leap of faith, I went to the dentist for a checkup. As usual, he asked me questions while holding instruments in my mouth, and in the middle of the conversation, he said, “I saw you on Instagram. You're in marketing, right?” To which I replied with a “uh-huh” with the instruments still in my mouth. They're famous for doing that to patients, aren't they? He asked if I wanted to work with him managing his social media. At that moment, I knew it was God hiring me through him and saying, “I see you, my child.”
I immediately accepted the opportunity. When I got home, I told my husband, “I have a job!” And he, surprised, asked, “How?” I told him that Dr. Carlos Suchini (one of the best dentists in Guatemala) had hired me, and although I felt out of touch with social media, I knew that my creativity and intelligence came from God and that I should trust in Him.
Today, I have been working for that dentist for three years, and for other people who have come to know me through my work, not only in social media management, but now my services have diversified to include advising and expanding our range of services as a marketing agency.
Every day I give thanks and offer my work to God. I have established that no client will be accepted if their activities go against my principles and God's will. Every project begins with a prayer together, placing everything in God's hands so that our work may be edifying to others.
Today I tell you: don't be afraid, trust in your talent, and surrender your dreams to God. He will provide them. I remember as if it were yesterday that the first thing I did was thank God and dedicate my work to Him, and since then, I have seen His hand guiding me every step of the way. Trust, and you will see the wonders God can do in your life!
