A diluted identity
There are moments in life when we feel our identity has been slowly fading away. We go from being the daughter who sought her father's approval, to the wife who built a home, to the mother who devoted herself completely to her children… and, without realizing it, we leave ourselves at the bottom of the list.
One day we woke up and asked ourselves: who am I beyond the roles I play?
For many women, the answer isn't clear. We find ourselves trapped between past wounds, relationships that have left their mark, and the fear of being alone. This fear doesn't arise from nowhere: many of us have inherited it from our mothers' stories, from what we witnessed at home, from the absences that left us feeling abandoned. And when adult life brings its own trials—infidelity, breakups, disagreements—those old wounds are reopened with even greater force.
But here's the important thing: our identity isn't lost, it's dormant . What fades can be reshaped. And the path to reclaiming it begins within ourselves.
How do we begin to rebuild ourselves?
-
Acknowledging what we feel. Anger, sadness, or frustration don't make us less; they are part of grief and it's valid to feel them.
-
Separating our value from the decisions of others. Someone choosing to leave or stay doesn't define our worth.
-
Listening to our inner child. Embracing those memories of abandonment allows us to give ourselves today what we didn't receive then.
-
Trying new things. Sometimes we don't know what we like because we've never given ourselves permission to explore it. Every different activity is an opportunity to rediscover ourselves.
-
Respecting our boundaries. We don't have to accept situations that hurt us; saying "no" is also an act of self-love.
A message for you, woman
If you feel your identity has faded today, remember that you still have time to rediscover it. Life doesn't end with a relationship, a loss, or a failure. Life reinvents itself every day, and you have the power to reshape yours.
Perhaps you feel broken or lost right now, but inside you there's a seed that still lives. A seed of strength, love, and purpose. It just needs a little light, space, and care to grow again.
Because you are not only what others see in you . You are your dreams, your resilience, your story, and the new pages yet to be written.
“I am enough even if my path changes”
