EEGSA launches the 2025 edition of its program to prevent electrical accidents in children

Guatemala, June 6, 2025 – With the enthusiasm of hundreds of elementary school students, EEGSA begins the 2025 edition of its Accident Prevention Program (PPA), reaffirming its commitment to electrical safety and education in the communities where it has coverage.

This year, the program's first stop was the Rubén Darío School, located in Zone 6 of the municipality of Chinautla, where students from first to sixth grade participated in an interactive educational session that connected them, quite literally, with the importance of staying away from medium-voltage power lines. The activity was led by instructor Raúl Pérez, who, drawing on his personal experience as a survivor of an electrical accident, conveyed a powerful message about the risks of electricity and the importance of prevention.

In 2025, the goal is to visit 25 schools in the departments of Guatemala, Escuintla and Sacatepéquez, thus strengthening the program's coverage and bringing its message of safety to more communities.

Victoria Balcárcel, head of the Environmental and Social Management Unit at EEGSA, emphasized: “Our goal is not only to educate, but to inspire. We want every child to understand that electrical safety is in their hands and that every preventative action can save lives. Today's learning can make all the difference tomorrow.”

Since its inception, the PPA has directly impacted over 420,000 students, indirectly benefiting more than 2.1 million people. In 2024 alone, the program reached over 7,500 students in 22 schools, positively impacting more than 40,000 people. These figures demonstrate how a well-directed educational initiative can become a powerful tool for strengthening collective security.

What began in 2011 as a pilot project entitled "Playing Near Electricity Is a Danger to Your Safety" has evolved into a leading program in electrical risk prevention. Today, the program extends beyond elementary school classrooms, training university students, workers, and other sectors, promoting a culture of electrical safety at every stage of life.

Under the corporate purpose of “contributing to the harmony of life for a better world”, EEGSA continues to expand the reach of the PPA with a clear vision: sowing awareness today, to reap safer generations tomorrow.
