La llamada que cambio mi corazón

The call that changed my heart

In a small town surrounded by mountains lived Marta, a strong-willed woman who spent her days immersed in her routine: work, bills to pay, and the constant feeling of not having enough time. She was often caught yelling at her children over trivial matters or ignoring the greeting of her elderly neighbor, whom she barely knew.

Everything changed when she received a call that shook her to her core: a close relative had been in an accident and was in critical condition. Distraught, Marta rushed to the hospital, feeling fear and helplessness. While waiting for news, she witnessed a simple yet moving act: a family with limited resources was sharing their meal with someone who was weeping silently in the same room. That gesture of empathy reminded her how much value lies in every act of kindness.

Lost in thought, Marta began to reminisce about her childhood, when her parents would walk her to school and family breakfast was the warmest moment. She realized that the daily rush and problems had made her distant, causing her to forget the importance of a hug or a simple "thank you" to those around her.

When the doctor arrived, he gave her the news that her relative, against all odds, would recover with rest and rehabilitation. Marta felt immense relief and understood that this was also her second chance to change. She decided to be more patient with her children, call her mother frequently, and offer her help to her neighbor whenever she could.

At that moment, a lesson he had heard years before resonated in his mind:
“Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.” (Luke 6:36)

It was then that she understood that love and compassion aren't limited to grand heroic acts, but are manifested in small, everyday details. The next day, Marta left home with a genuine smile and a renewed purpose: to honor the second chance life had given her by offering patience, tenderness, and gratitude to those around her. And she discovered that, in the end, there is no better remedy for a weary soul than a heart determined to love and serve.
