Dos Pinos reinforces its commitment to responsible water management

·       At Dos Pinos we understand that water is an essential resource for our operations and for life itself.

Guatemala, March 2025.  This year, World Water Day focuses on "glacier conservation," highlighting its crucial role in providing drinking water, supporting agriculture, industry, and clean energy. In this context, Dos Pinos reaffirms its commitment to water sustainability through innovative initiatives and strategies that ensure the efficient use of water in its operations.

"Every drop counts. At Dos Pinos, we understand that water is an essential resource for our operations and for life itself. That's why we continue to innovate and develop strategies to optimize its use, ensuring the sustainability of our operations and the well-being of the communities where we operate," said Claudia Barrios, Institutional Relations Manager at Dos Pinos.

Commitment to water sustainability in Guatemala

Guatemala is a country with great ecological diversity and also faces challenges regarding water availability. Therefore, Dos Pinos has implemented a comprehensive water management approach in the country that includes:

·       Water quality monitoring and control: Strict physicochemical and microbiological standards are applied to ensure safe use and minimize reprocessing.

·       Automated industrial cleaning systems: They recover and reuse 30% of the water used in rinses and up to 90% of the detergents in the washing phase.

·       "pig" product recovery system: Allows maximizing the use of raw materials without resorting to water in the final stage of production.

·       Automatic sensors in lubrication equipment: They ensure that the lubricant is only dispensed when necessary, preventing water waste.

·       Recovery and recirculation of 100% of the water used in the generation of steam and chilled water.

·       Automatic toilets, sinks and urinals: They contribute to efficient water use in all facilities.

·       Optimized cleaning protocols: Designed to reduce consumption without compromising product safety.

Thanks to these initiatives, in the last year Dos Pinos managed to produce 20% more than planned, saving approximately one million liters of water.

Future plans and challenges in water sustainability

The future of water sustainability at Dos Pinos requires an even greater commitment. In Guatemala, the company will continue to focus on reducing water consumption in yogurt and cream production by optimizing washing processes and implementing new technologies. Furthermore, it will work on adapting to climate change through studies that allow it to anticipate future scenarios and improve water efficiency throughout its operations.

"Beyond technology, the fundamental challenge is cultivating an organizational culture of sustainability. We want every Dos Pinos employee to understand that responsible water management is key to the future of our company and the planet," Barrios stated.

A call to action in Guatemala

In Guatemala, Dos Pinos takes an active role in protecting and using water efficiently, understanding its importance to communities and ecosystems. "Water is our source of life. If we all decide to care for it and use it wisely, we can guarantee its availability for present and future generations," Barrios concluded.

It's not just about reducing consumption or avoiding waste, but about embracing a culture of respect for this essential resource, protecting our watersheds, restoring our ecosystems, and working together for a fairer and more sustainable future.
