The Miguel Torrebiarte Sohanin Foundation continues to provide free education to Guatemalans
Guatemala, February 2025.- The Miguel Torrebiarte Sohanin Foundation -FMTS-, continues to provide free education to Guatemalans, through the program “Brilliant Lessons”, which is aimed at people who abandoned their academic preparation due to lack of economic resources and who have informal jobs.
“This free program offers elementary school, accelerated basic education, and a high school diploma in Sciences and Humanities for adults. It focuses on providing a holistic education that seeks the complete development of the individual, addressing not only academic, emotional, social, physical, and cultural aspects, but also educational and formative aspects, which provide the basic knowledge and skills necessary to thrive in life ,” said Marleny Aquino, Executive Director of FMTS.
The impact that Bright Lessons has had on the lives of students and their families has increased the number of people who approach the foundation to request admission to the program; proof of this is reflected in 2025, as it has 55 students enrolled between the primary and basic levels; since the beginning of the program to date, 125 students have been certified between the primary and basic levels, in addition to 24 students who have graduated from high school with a degree in Science and Letters through maturity.
To follow up on the educational process of students graduating from the basic level, scholarships for study in high school in Sciences and Letters for maturity at Colegio Montano have been offered since 2022 through ESCOLARIS , an innovative, easy to manage, flexible homeschooling platform adapted to the new reality.
Recently, the induction of the use of the ESCOLARIS platform was carried out for graduating students from the capital and Cobán, to provide all students with educational and technological support.
“ Distance learning has become a key strategy for boosting rural development, overcoming geographical barriers and providing educational opportunities to communities far from urban centers. In this context, we expanded the number of scholarships this year, awarding 24 high school diplomas in Science and Letters for adults in the city area and 4 scholarships in Cobán; a dream come true through the partnership with INMOBILIARIA OLGA DE TORREBIARTE & ASOC, which donated 10 tablets to the program for student use,” added Marleny Aquino, Executive Director of FMTS.
Brilliant Lessons is endorsed by the Ministry of Education through the National Education Program of Guatemala -PRONEA-, as part of the General Directorate of Extracurricular Education who certify students at the end of each stage.
