¿Cómo prepararse para los primeros exámenes del año? Kumon brinda recomendaciones a padres de familia para que sus hijos tengan éxito en las evaluaciones

How to prepare for the first exams of the year? Kumon offers recommendations to parents to help their children succeed in the assessments.

Guatemala, February 2025 - With the start of the school year, students must not only adapt to an academic routine again, but also face the challenge of learning new content.

As the first exams of the year approach, many parents are wondering how they can help their children study effectively and avoid academic stress.

According to Christian Banda, Manager for Kumon Mexico and Central America, success at this stage depends on consistency, planning, and the development of solid study habits in students from the beginning of the year. “The first months of the school year are key to laying the foundation for good academic performance. Facing new subjects can be challenging, but with the right strategies, students can build confidence and improve their performance on exams.”

Recommendations for success in the first assessments of the school year

The expert shares 4 recommendations for parents:

1.     Develop effective study habits from the start: learning shouldn't be limited to the days leading up to exams. Daily practice is essential for consolidating knowledge and developing essential cognitive skills. Each study day represents an opportunity to reinforce what you've learned, identify areas for improvement, and make steady progress.

Banda shares that the Kumon Method is an example of this, as it is based on constant repetition and personalized learning, allowing students to build a solid foundation that prepares them not only for their exams, but also to face future academic challenges.

2.     Organizing study time: Parents are advised to help their children create a study schedule, dividing topics into daily sessions. This helps avoid last-minute stress and improves comprehension of the material.

3.     Adapting to new subjects and levels of difficulty: As the school year progresses, students encounter more complex concepts. The key lies in progressive learning, which allows knowledge to be acquired gradually and in a structured way.

In this process, Banda explains, it is essential to reinforce prior knowledge to facilitate the understanding of new topics. Kumon helps students assimilate new content progressively, adapting to their own learning pace.

4.     Encouraging autonomy and critical thinking: It is essential that students develop their independence and confidence in their studies. Autonomy helps students develop discipline, patience, and analytical skills—abilities that will serve them throughout their academic and professional lives.

When a student learns to trust their ability to solve problems on their own, they also develop critical thinking, which allows them to approach challenges from different perspectives and find effective solutions.

The first exams of the school year can become an opportunity to strengthen learning and academic confidence. “At Kumon, we believe that every student has the potential to learn independently and achieve great academic success. With the right tools and strategies, children and young people can face any challenge with confidence and determination,” Banda concludes.
