I see myself through your eyes
We often think we know the reasons why someone makes a decision, but behind every choice lies a world of invisible factors: family, past hurts, inherited beliefs, guilt, jealousy, or envy. All of this influences the paths people choose, even though those paths often don't lead them to where they are truly valued.
Life teaches us that the place where someone fought for us, where we received unconditional love, or where we were seen as our dream future doesn't always win out. Sometimes the noise of the outside world, the invisible chains of misguided beliefs, or the whispers of those who seek to manipulate us prevail. And in that process, we close our eyes to true love, to empathy, and to the sincere struggle of those who were there without asking for anything in return.
Guilt, far from healing, becomes a heavy burden. It's a belief system that, instead of guiding us toward freedom, binds us with fear and silence. And the hardest part is that, by making decisions under these influences, we often renounce the most authentic space: the one where we are valued, supported, and loved unconditionally.
But when we practice empathy, something changes. We understand that behind every choice lie internal battles that we don't always see. Empathy teaches us that seeing through another's eyes, even if it hurts, can help us understand that the cause wasn't always a lack of love, but rather the excess of invisible chains that we didn't know how to break.
“And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” (John 8:32, RVR1960)
The truth opens our eyes and reminds us that authentic love needs no disguise. That sometimes, true courage lies in choosing the place where we are loved unconditionally.
