Why this Taboo section

In our society, there are topics that seem shrouded in silence, topics that are uncomfortable to discuss and that, for some reason, we have learned to avoid. These topics, known as taboos, have a special power: they are often the ones we most need to discuss and understand, yet they are the ones most often swept under the rug.

One of these major taboos, especially among women, is that of societal expectations regarding the body, motherhood, and aging. Throughout life, we face constant pressure about how we should look, behave, or feel, and we are rarely given the space to question these norms or speak openly about the feelings they generate.

Why do we continue to remain silent? The answer may lie in the fear of judgment or of being seen as different, but also in the habit of hiding anything that deviates from what society deems "acceptable." However, this silence comes at a cost. When we don't talk about these issues, when we don't create spaces to discuss what troubles us, we end up carrying feelings of guilt, shame, or frustration that prevent us from being authentic.

It's time to break the taboo. It's time to speak openly about what truly matters: the insecurities we all share, the emotional challenges that affect us, and the realities that are often ignored. Talking about these issues not only liberates us, but also helps other women feel understood and supported.

The power of discussing taboo lies not in shocking, but in humanizing. In recognizing that we have all, at some point, felt we didn't fit those imposed standards. It's liberating to say, "I'm not perfect, and I don't have to be," and to allow other women to feel safe sharing their own experiences.

The Taboo section in this magazine is not just a space to talk about what makes us uncomfortable, but to empower women to be authentic, to challenge those beliefs that limit us and to remind ourselves that our strength lies in embracing all parts of who we are, including those we were taught to hide.

Let's talk about what no one else wants to talk about. Let's open a dialogue about our truths, because by doing so we not only break the taboo, but we also build a stronger, more united, and more authentic community.
